Secretly sweet cat has waited for home for 500 days. ‘She’s someone’s soulmate’ (1)

Two owners. Three foster moms. 500 days.

Those are the numbers attached to a 6-year-old cat named Mia, a slightly temperamental girl who is long overdue to find that special someone who will give her another chance at a comfortable life, an Indiana shelter says.

“She was surrendered back in December of 2023 because she didn’t get along with the other cat in the home,” the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said in a April 23 Facebook post.

“Since then, she’s been passed from the shelter to foster homes and back again, each time we’ve been able to learn a little more about what she needs, but never quite finding her person.”

The 500 long days have inched on by for the cat, who lived with one owner for five years, her pet profile says.

“My owner said I didn’t play well with others. In hindsight, they were probably right,” her profile says. “I admit I have difficulty living with other cats. And because I am the kind of girl who startles easily, I can overreact if I hear a loud noise, you accidentally touch me when I don’t expect it, or someone interrupts us if I’m sitting on your lap.”

“I guess I like to feel prepared for life’s little events.”

She needs just the right home, with no children, no other pets and with someone who fluently speaks “cat” and has a loving, and patient, heart.

“Not just someone who loves cats, but someone who understands them. The kind of person who watches a flicking tail and knows to pause. Who sees a slow blink and feels honored. Who doesn’t take a little swat personally, and who celebrates the little moments: making biscuits on their lap, a soft purr in their ear, a gentle headbutt asking for love,” the shelter said.

Mia needs this sort of person to bring out the sweetie pie in her, the gentle nature in her.

“Because here’s the truth: when Mia feels safe, she blossoms,” the shelter continues. “Her foster mom says she sleeps on her chest, chirps for attention, and has a full-blown case of the zoomies when the mood strikes. She’s playful, affectionate, silly, and sensitive. She’s just... misunderstood. And that’s why she’s still waiting.”

Along with her anxiety, Mia also has her two front paws declawed.

“She’s got quirks, but don’t we all? She’s not a beginner’s cat. But she’s someone’s soulmate,” the shelter said.

Fishers is about a 20-mile northeast drive from downtown Indianapolis.
